Our Approach to Parenting Support
We believe that connection is the foundation of effective parenting. When children feel safe, seen, and understood, they are better able to regulate, cooperate, and thrive.
Our work with parents is not about “fixing” behaviour, it is about understanding what is underneath the behaviour and responding in ways that support long-term emotional health and secure relationships.
Parent Connect Program
The Parent Connect Program is a structured, individualized parenting program designed specifically for families navigating separation or divorce.
This program focuses on helping parents reduce conflict, better understand their child’s needs, and create a more stable and supportive environment across homes.
Grounded in attachment theory and child development, Parent Connect supports parents in:
- Understanding the impact of separation and conflict on children
- Strengthening the parent–child relationship
- Creating consistency and predictability for children across households
- Developing effective co-parenting communication strategies
- Supporting children’s emotional regulation and sense of safety
Parent Connect is offered individually and can be adapted to work with one or both parents. The focus is always on the best interests of the child and supporting their emotional wellbeing.

Voice of the Child Reports
Voice of the Child Reports provide children with an opportunity to share their experiences, perspectives, and feelings within the context of separation, divorce, and parenting arrangements.
This process is designed to ensure that the child’s voice is heard in a safe, developmentally appropriate, and non-leading manner, without placing decision-making responsibility on the child.
At Courageous Connections, Voice of the Child Reports are completed by a trained clinician using a child-centered and trauma-informed approach. The process typically includes:
- Individual meetings with the child
- Creating a safe and supportive space for the child to express their thoughts and experiences
- Careful documentation of the child’s views without interpretation or recommendations
- A written report that reflects the child’s voice in a clear, neutral, and professional manner
These reports may be used to support:
- Parenting plan development or revisions
- Mediation processes
- Legal proceedings related to parenting arrangements
It is important to note that a Voice of the Child Report does not assess parenting capacity or determine outcomes. Instead, it provides insight into the child’s perspective so that adults can make informed decisions in the child’s best interests.
At Courageous Connections, Kathleen facilitates structured parenting programs and is trained in Voice of the Child Report writing, bringing a child-centered and attachment-focused approach to all services.
Ensuring that children have a safe and appropriate way to share their experiences is an important part of supporting their wellbeing. When a child’s voice is understood, parents and professionals are better able to make decisions that promote stability, connection, and emotional safety.
